I traditionally find the month of July to be ‘slower’ than normal as many clients take vacations to recharge, or enjoy a less-busy pace (at least in their personal lives). I recently took 5 days to visit Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons. I must say I’ve never seen such beautiful nature and experienced such a ‘big sky’. And it was easy to digitally disconnect since there wasn’t much regular cell or internet service where I was!
Do you take time on the weekends or during the summer to recharge? Do you encourage your staff to do the same? Or perhaps that conversation in your head is convincing you that “it’s just not a good time right now”.
The Science Proves It:
🏝️🧬 Vacation is Good for Your Mind, Body and Soul!
It can’t be argued that taking time for personal travel, or changing-up your routine from everyday life is good for the mind, body and soul. Once we experience it, we get it (like I just did)!
A better driver for the decision to take a vacation is knowing that science proves there are benefits for all three. For example, research shows that taking time off can provide an opportunity for big or innovative ideas to emerge (mind); and that going on vacation can lower chances of dying from coronary heart disease, including lower blood sugar levels and improved HDL or “good” cholesterol levels (body). And of course, answers to life’s big questions are more likely to come to us when there is some space and stillness to listen to our inner voice and hone our intuition (soul).

As we move through this milestone year, I find that the themes of hope (which I shared after the 250th anniversary of this great country) and recharge have something in common: Neither is passive. Unity isn’t something we wait for; it’s something we choose to build. And taking time to recharge isn’t something that happens once our calendars finally clear; it’s something we intentionally choose to do. The same clarity and purpose that helps us hold hope for the bigger picture is the same clarity we find when we give ourselves space to step away. This month, do both: stay hopeful, and take time to recharge enough to pursue it.
