| I hope you are squeezing the most out of these final summer days! Or perhaps you are already feeling ‘back’ – to the school routine, or the work routine, or just ready for Fall!
In my last resource email, I shared that after years of conducting 360-degree feedback assessments, I have found five behaviors that consistently separate magnetic leaders from the rest. That was a popular email and the behaviors seem to resonate with many of you, some even requesting a quick “reference guide”. So here it is, your cheat sheet for the leadership practices that draw people to want to work for you
The Five Magnetic Leadership Practices (Quick Recap)
🤝 Master Difficult Conversations
Don’t wait for problems to solve themselves. Address challenges head-on and turn uncomfortable discussions into learning opportunities.
📆 Honor Your Word Religiously
When you commit, deliver. When you schedule, show up. Your reliability becomes the foundation others build their trust on.
👂 Listen Like It’s Your Superpower
Stay present, ask deeper questions, and reflect back what you hear. People become more loyal when they feel genuinely understood.
🔍 Share the Context People Crave
Fill the information vacuum before rumors do. Give your team the context they need to understand decisions and changes.
💬 Welcome Feedback as Growth Fuel
Ask for input, thank people for honesty, and act on what you learn. Your openness to feedback is your pathway to self-awareness.
The Self-Awareness Connection
Here’s what makes these behaviors powerful: they all require self-awareness to execute well. You have to know your tendencies around conflict, recognize your patterns with commitments, understand your listening habits, acknowledge your transparency comfort zone, and be honest about your feedback receptivity.
The leaders who excel at these five practices know exactly how they show up in each area—and more importantly, they know how others experience them.
